Andy Adams (1859–1935) was an American writer best known for his realistic portrayals of cowboy life in the Old West. Born in Indiana, he spent years as a working cowboy in Texas and on cattle drives to Kansas, experiences that deeply influenced his writing.
Frustrated by the romanticized, inaccurate depictions of the West in popular fiction, Adams wrote "The Log of a Cowboy" (1903), a novel praised for its authenticity and often considered one of the most accurate accounts of a cattle drive. He went on to write several other Western novels and short stories, but none achieved the same level of recognition.
Unlike many dime-novel Westerns of his time, Adams’ works emphasized realistic detail, hardships, and the daily life of cowboys, making him an important figure in early Western literature.
"The Double Trail" by Andy Adams follows a seasoned cowboy who, while driving cattle, uncovers a trail of deception and must confront danger on the open range.
