B.M. Bower (1871–1940) was an American author best known for her Western novels and short stories. Born Bertha Muzzy Sinclair in Minnesota, she was one of the first successful female writers of Western fiction, publishing over 60 novels and numerous short stories.
Her most famous book, "Chip of the Flying U" (1906), introduced readers to a realistic and engaging portrayal of cowboy life, setting her apart from more exaggerated Western tales of the time. Her stories often featured strong character development, humor, and authentic ranch life details.
Bower’s work helped popularize Western fiction, proving that the genre wasn’t just for men, and her influence continues to be recognized in Western literature today.
